Manny's Demolition & Junk Removal

What a dump trailer rental costs in Georgia

You load it. That's the whole difference, and it's the thing to weigh up. A trailer sitting in the driveway is worth it when the work comes in pieces and you've got people to help. It stops being worth it the moment you're paying for days you aren't using.

What it comes down to

How the work is spread out. A trailer earns its keep when the job arrives in pieces: the garage one evening, the attic the next weekend, the shed whenever you get to it. If everything is already in one heap by the curb, you're hiring a container to hold something that could go straight onto a truck. The other half of it is who's doing the carrying, because on a rental the stairs are yours.

What you are actually moving

A dump trailer is a trailer with a hydraulic bed. It gets towed in, parked where you want it if there's a way to get there, and towed back out. It's smaller than a roll-off dumpster and needs less room to place, which is why it fits tight driveways and shared lots where a roll-off simply can't go. Roll-offs are a different piece of equipment, dropped off a hooklift truck by dumpster rental companies, and they need clear space and a straight approach. We rent trailers. The practical difference is how much of your property you give up while the work is going on.

Where it ends up

Loading it yourself doesn't make the disposal free. Whatever it costs to be rid of what you put in is still in the number, and it's settled on weight no matter who did the lifting. That matters more on a rental than on anything else, because a trailer is rated by weight rather than by volume, and the two run out at completely different moments. Cardboard, bagged clothing and furniture will heap over the top rail while the trailer is still comfortably under its rating. Tile, mortar, shingles, wet carpet and dirt do the opposite, and reach the limit with a foot of daylight left above the load. The other thing worth knowing before you start filling it is that what goes in decides how it gets handled at the end. A trailer of clean masonry is the cheap class of material. Tip a few bags of household junk in on top of it and the whole trailer becomes the expensive class, concrete included. On a rental the sorting is yours as well as the loading, which is either an easy saving or an easy mistake depending on how the first hour goes.

Sorting is what brings the disposal half down, because separated material is handled more cheaply than a mixed trailer. On a full-service job we do that sorting. On a rental it's yours, so it's worth deciding what goes where before the first thing goes in.

The work itself

On a rental the loading is all yours. A trailer at the garage door and a trailer at the top of a driveway with everything coming up out of a basement are not the same rental, even though they hire for the same money. That gap is what people misjudge before they book. Full-service removal includes the lifting and a rental doesn't, and that's most of what separates the two numbers. Neither is the better deal in the abstract. It depends whose Saturday it is.

What moves the number

  • How long you keep it, since the rental period runs whether the trailer fills or not
  • The finished weight, because a trailer is rated by what it can carry rather than by what it can hold
  • What goes in it, since clean fill and mixed household junk are handled very differently once the trailer leaves
  • Delivery distance from Rome, and whether there is room to place the trailer and pull it back out loaded
  • Whether the ground can take a loaded trailer, because soft yards and steep driveways rule out spots that look fine empty
  • How much help you have, since the lifting is the part a rental leaves with you

Where estimates go wrong

  • Renting for a job that is already in one pile, which is a container hired to hold something that could go straight on a truck
  • Booking a longer window than the work needs, since unused days are where most of the waste on a rental happens
  • Assuming a roll-off and a trailer place the same way, when one needs a straight clear approach for a hooklift truck and the other doesn't
  • Filling it with masonry and treating it like a load of furniture, since dense material reaches the rating with plenty of daylight left above it
  • Throwing a couple of bags of house junk into an otherwise clean load of concrete, which costs more than those bags could possibly be worth

Estimates are free, and you get the number before anything starts.

Questions about dump trailer rental

Do you rent roll-off dumpsters?

No. We rent dump trailers, which is a different piece of equipment. A roll-off gets dropped off a hooklift truck by a dumpster rental company and needs clear space and a straight approach to set down. A trailer gets towed in and takes up less of your driveway, so it goes places a roll-off won't fit.

Is renting cheaper than having it hauled?

It depends on the shape of the job rather than the size of it. Spread over several days, with people to help and a pile that isn't assembled yet, a trailer usually comes out ahead. One heap by the garage and nobody free to lift it, and you're paying rental days to do your own labor. Tell us how the work is spread out and we'll say which way it falls.

How much can actually go in it?

Weight limits are real and they bite well before the top rail does. Cardboard and furniture will look full while the trailer is still light. Tile, mortar or wet carpet reaches the rating with a lot of room left above the load. If it's a masonry job, say so when you book, because that changes what we bring and how far up you should fill it.

What should I keep out of it?

Liquids and anything hazardous: paint, fuel, solvent, propane cylinders, and anything holding refrigerant. Tires and car batteries are the same, and they are easy enough to set to one side. Ask when you book and we'll tell you where those go, so they aren't sitting in the bottom of a full trailer on the day it gets picked up.
