Manny's Demolition & Junk Removal

Small-Structure Demolition and Removal

Fences, sheds, decks, barns and concrete taken down and hauled off in one go.

What this covers

  • fencing
  • sheds and outbuildings
  • decks and porches
  • barns and garages
  • concrete slabs and walkways

Not part of this job

We don't handle asbestos, which has to be abated by a certified contractor before anything comes down.

What this job is actually like

On most small structures the demolition is the quick part and the debris is the real job. A modest deck or shed produces a surprising volume, and anything involving concrete, shingles or masonry is heavy enough that disposal dominates the cost. That's why we price the teardown and the haul-away as one job. Split them and you end up with a flattened structure sitting in the yard for a month. A deck is the clearest case of it. The boards are treated lumber, which can't go into clean wood recycling and shouldn't be burned, so a pile that looks like a winter's firewood is nothing of the kind.

Worth sorting out before the day

  • Line up the haul-away before the structure comes down. A flattened deck is heavier and more awkward than a standing one.
  • Find out what runs under it and into it before the day. Power to a shed, a water line to a barn and an old septic line all have to be dealt with before a machine touches the structure.
  • Say whether the footings, posts and slab are coming out. That's often the difference between a half day and a full one.
  • Flag anything built before the 1980s so abatement can be lined up before the day.

How the job runs

The teardown and the haul-away are one job. That's the point. Most people who demo something themselves find out the debris was the hard part.

What moves the price

  • size and construction of the structure
  • debris weight, which dominates on anything with concrete or shingles
  • equipment access
  • whether footings and foundations come out too

Estimates are free, and you get the number before anything starts.

What moves the number is different for each kind of job here: deck removal and shed removal each go through what the work involves and what moves the price.

Common questions

Do I need a permit?

Sometimes, and it turns on the structure rather than on us. A small shed usually doesn't. Anything with a foundation, anything attached to the house, and anything a utility runs into often does. It's worth a phone call to your city or county before the date is set, and we work to whatever they tell you.

Does the debris go too?

Yes. Teardown and disposal are the same job. Leaving a pile behind would defeat the purpose.

What about asbestos?

Anything suspected of containing asbestos needs a certified abatement contractor first, and that isn't something a hauler can work around. It comes out under containment, by people certified to handle it, before demolition starts. Siding, floor tile, pipe wrap and roofing on anything built before the 1980s are the usual places it turns up.

Where this is available

We cover demolition across the whole service area, from Floyd County out to about fifty miles. How quickly we can get to you depends mostly on the distance, so the closer towns tend to be same-day or next-day and the far edge gets scheduled.
